1. Package contents

  • Varius Message Router appliance (VMR)
  • 5V, 2.5A power adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Cellular antenna

2. Insert SIM card

  1. Insert micro SIM card into opening.
  2. SIM card clicks to lock in place.
  3. To release SIM card, push in SIM card.
  4. Connect the power adapter to the wall socket and turn on power.

Note: This section does not apply to Varius Message Router non-cellular models.

3. Access VMR

Access with Ethernet

  1. Configure your notebook’s Ethernet adapter to
    IP address: 192.168.0.100
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  2. Connect your notebook’s Ethernet port to VMR’s Ethernet port with an Ethernet cable.
  3. Open your web browser, type http://192.168.0.88 to access VMR’s web interface.
  4. Login with default username / password: admin / password.

Access with Wi-Fi

  1. VMR is configured as access point mode with SSID “vmr”.
  2. Connect your notebook’s Wi-Fi adapter to SSID “vmr” with password “vmrconnect”.
  3. Once connected, open your web browser, type http://192.168.220.1 to access VMR’s web interface.
  4. Login with default username / password: admin / password.

4. Connect VMR to your corporate network

Connect to Ethernet network

The following guide connects VMR to your corporate Ethernet network.

  1. From main menu, select System Administration > Ethernet.
  2. Select DHCP or set static IP address of VMR and click Save.
  3. Connect VMR’s Ethernet port to your network switch with an Ethernet cable.
  4. Click Restart Network to apply the settings immediately.
  5. Open your notebook’s web browser and type VMR’s IP address to access its web interface.

Connect to Wi-Fi network

The following guide connects VMR to your corporate Wi-Fi network.

  1. From main menu, select System Administration > Wi-Fi.
  2. Click “Set as client” to set VMR’s Wi-Fi adapter as a Wi-Fi client.
  3. The page appears.
  4. Click Scan to scan Wi-Fi networks and select the SSID or key in a new SSID.
  5. Key in the corresponding Network Security Key and click Save Profile.
  6. Set the IP Address assignment as DHCP or Static and click Save.
  7. Click Restart Network and VMR will auto connect to the selected Wi-Fi network.
  8. If you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi network, restart VMR.

5. Set system time

  1. From main menu, select System Administration > System Time.
  2. Set system time manually or select “Set Time Automatically” to synchronize system time with public network time protocol (NTP) servers.

Set time manually:

  1. Uncheck “Set Time Automatically”.
  2. Click “Save”.
  3. From main menu, select System Administration > System Time.
  4. Set correct date and time.
  5. Click “Save”.
  6. Access main menu, select System Administration > System Time to verify.

Set time automatically:

  1. VMR needs to access the internet to synchronize time.
  2. Check “Set Time Automatically”.
  3. Click “Save”.
  4. Key in the NTP servers addresses.
    If the addresses are blank, the default NTP are used.
  5. Click “Save”.
  6. Access main menu, select System Administration > System Time to verify that time is synchronized.
Configure system time
